The source of legislative power for the establishment of MAIK is provided in subsection 4 (1) of the Administration of Islamic Law (Kedah Darul Aman) Enactment 2008, that is, "There shall be a body known as the “Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Kedah Darul Aman” to aid and advise His Royal Highness the Sultan in matters relating to the religion of Islam".

Majlis Agama Islam Negeri Kedah receive Syarie Lawyer Permit payments through checks and electronic money transfers in the name KEDAH ISLAMIC COUNCIL Account No. 02011010000370 (Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad)
If payment is made by check, it must be submitted to the office of the Kedah Islamic Religious Council and the check made out in the name of the Kedah Islamic Religious Council.
